Residents help scouts behind the scenes

April 3, 2010
Daily Press

This week's bouquets go to:

` From Mark Rose, Red Buck District commissioner:

"Any reader of the Escanaba Daily Press can readily tell you that our area Scouts, both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, surely keep busy with their outings and events. Our area Scouts are from the Red Buck District, which is made up of Delta County and Manistique area boys. And yes the boys have been active, but they couldn't do it without help. Red Buck District has a great bunch of volunteer adult leaders, which is always striving to provide a quality Scouting program for the boys. In addition to the registered leaders the Scouts want to thank another group of special folks who help make their program the success that it continues to be. These special folks are the "behind the scenes," people who help arrange everything from campgrounds to camp at, to porta-potties.

"The Red Buck District would like to recognize those folks who have assisted the Red Buck District Scouting program:

"Red Buck District Cub-O-Ree and Klondike Derby - Anne Okonek with the U.S. Forest Service, for assistance setting up the Stockyard use. Stenberg Brothers, for their assistance with porta-potties. Mike Wolf of St. Francis Hospital for help organizing Klondike lunch. Elmer's County Market for supplying food items for Klondike lunch. Rob VanEffen of Delta CountyRoad Commission for plowing assistance. Mike Farrell of Northern Heating for Klondike event supplies; Kelly O'Connell of T&T Hardware for Klondike event supplies. Glen Taylor of Mel's Lawn and Feed for Klondike event supplies

"Red Buck District Pinewood Derby Finals - Greg Bink of Riverside Chevy for the use of the garage (and especially his daughters who helped out all day with the concessions for the Cubs). Jerry Sebeck of Jerry's Body Shop for supplying trophies for each of the top three winners in each rank.

"Red Buck District Scout Show - Jennifer LaChance of the Delta Plaza for her assistance setting up the plaza for our Scout Show.

"And of course we would be remiss if we did not recognize those in the media who cover and promote all of our events, Jillian Jamison of the Escanaba Daily Press, Beth Jones of TV-6, WDBC and the RRN Radio network, who are always happy to cover all of our activities!

"We would also like to thank all of you who support Scouting. Your donations All do help out, right here at the local level.

"It is because of your help that these boys are able to receive the program that they do!"
