Agencies and organizations that do a world of good have many champions in Mansitique.
As it has for many years, the community's Cancer-Bay Cliff-Community Charities (CBC) have had what appears to be another successful year. Each year, CBC raises money for good causes through numerous events. This year, it appears organizers will reach their $47,000 fund-raising goal.
The purpose of CBC is to raise funds for cancer research, Bay Cliff Health Camp (a recreational camp for handicapped children and adults), and this years' local charities - Northwoods Air Life Link and the Medical Equipment Loan Closet at the senior center. The highlight of the CBC's fund-raising in March came Sunday, including a radio telethon and auction.
Organizers say the event was successful, with residents crowding the Manistique Middle and High School where the events were held. In fact, the events were so successful and well-attended that both food and prizes were cleared out early. All the auction items sold as well.
With a struggling economy, it was no doubt an uphill battle for the CBC to raise funds. It was equally as difficult for residents to be as generous as in year's past. It is a credit to all that this year's fund-raising goal was realized.
CBC is a huge undertaking and those who organized and worked to make it a success deserve a world of praise. No one said it better than 2010 CBC General Chairperson Robyn Loviska - "Something like this just doesn't go on by itself..."
Indeed, the CBC drive is truly a community effort that involved countless people and hours. It is a lasting legacy to the kindness and generosity of the Mansitique area.
Let's hope that CBC continues to be an annual event in the Manistique area and a friend to those charities it benefits.
