CRYSTAL FALLS - The body of a 65-year-old Crystal Falls man was recovered from under the ice on an Iron County lake Tuesday, according to Iron County Sheriff's officials.
Two men were fishing on Corbett Lake in Mansfield Township Monday night when both their ORVs went through the ice at around 7:30 p.m., stated Iron County Sheriff Mark Valesano in a news release.
After attempting to assist his fishing companion from the icy water, one of the men made a long trek off the ice and located a residence where the homeowner called for help. The sheriff's office received the 9-1-1 call at around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
A land and air search was immediately dispatched. The body of John Alan Brozak was later found at around 4:45 p.m. under the ice where his ORV had broken through, stated the sheriff.
Assisting the Iron County Sheriff's Department at the scene were the Delta County Search and Rescue Dive Team, Iron County Search and Rescue, officers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Crystal Falls Fire Department personnel, North Star Emergency Medical Service, and several local volunteers.
Valesano warns people to stay off the ice because conditions are extremely dangerous on area lakes due to recent warm weather.
