Thanks for honoring those who serve

February 13, 2010
Daily Press

This week's bouquets go to:

` From Kathie Hansen, Escanaba:

"I would like to send a bouquet to the Wal-Mart Photo Department for the wonderful display of our military men and women, not only during the holidays, but all year long.

"My son, Daniel Marsicek, just came home on leave from his forth four of duty in Iraq and appreciated the showing of recognition for all who are serving and all who have served our country."

` From organizers of the Marble Plus Knife Club:

"The Marble Plus Knife Club's 15th annual Cabin Fever Knife and Guns show was a huge success. Organizers thank all who attended, volunteers, dealers, donors, and especially the following businesses and organizations: Rapid River Lions Club, Bark River Knife and Tool, Marble Arms, Bay de Noc Lure Co., Marble's Outlet Store, Elmer's Bakery, Department of Natural Resources, Northwoods Knives, Pike Distributors, Daily Press, Bay de Noc Girls Softball, and Stenberg Bros. Inc."

"Donations from the club will be distributed to local charities in a few weeks, and will be announced at that time."

` From Mary F. Schram, Rapid River

"This bouquet goes out to the nice gentleman who stopped and assisted me on Feb. 8 at approximately 7 p.m. after I hit a deer between Gladstone and Rapid River. He was driving behind me and stopped immediately to see if I was OK. He made sure I was OK and that my car was driveable. He looked for the deer to make sure it wasn't suffering (we couldn't find it) and picked up the pieces to my car. Then he followed me to make sure I wouldn't break down. I forgot to get his name. It is so nice to live in a community where people stop to assist their fellow man. Thank you again. You were my angel that night!"

Each Saturday the Daily Press salutes individuals and groups from our area who have had a very positive impact on the way we live.

We identify our bouquet recipients in one of two ways: from Daily Press news pages and from nominations sent in by our readers.

Mail us a postcard or letter identifying your nomination and putting into detail what they've done. Include your name, address, and phone number. Send nominations to Saturday Bouquets, The Daily Press, 600 Ludington Street, Escanaba, MI 49829.

They may also be sent to us by going to our Web site, www.dailypress.net, and clicking on the Virtual Newsroom button. Once there, click on "Bouquets" and follow the simple instructions.
