ESCANABA - The William Bonifas Fine Arts Center is seeking additional volunteers to aid in its array of upcoming events. As we enter into another month, a host of activities on tap at the arts center will require the helping hands of those willing to give of their time to benefit others through the newly-formed Volunteer Auxiliary.
Although the center has a host of "incredible" volunteers who serve in an ongoing capacity, more are needed due primarily to the sheer volume of events planned for 2010, according to Bonifas Fine Arts Center Special Events Coordinator Beth Cox.
"We do have some wonderful volunteers now," said Cox. "The new Volunteer Auxiliary is more an attempt to organize our resources than a claim that we have none." She added, "Of course, it's also a perfect time and way for folks interested in working with us to jump in and find a place."
Interested individuals may choose from a long list of available options, where aptitudes are concerned. For example, there is a need for bakers (breads, cookies, etc.), phone workers, envelope stuffers, tour guides and people who make a good pot of coffee. There something for everyone who is able to help, and the thanks for doing so are free-flowing.
According to Cox, "...the Center uses thousands of volunteer hours every year, as well as paid staff time, to continue the remarkable level of arts programming that exists now." She went on to note that all jobs are handled by "hands belonging to wonderful people."
So, whether one is interested in serving as a poster runner, a gallery exhibit hanger, an usher, or any number of other roles, the arts center welcomes all helping hands.
The Bonifas Fine Arts Center's new Volunteer Auxiliary meets at 9 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at the center. Coffee and breads are served, and a preview of upcoming events is provided (for up to two months in advance).
The next meeting of the Volunteer Auxiliary is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, March 3. The public is encouraged to attend.
