GLADSTONE - A Rock woman was killed in a traffic accident Friday. State police from the Gladstone and Negaunee posts responded to a two-vehicle accident near Rock Friday. Killed in the crash was Dawn Klenow-Lampinen, 41, of Rock. The crash remains under investigation.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene of the accident on M-35, north of Rock. According to a news release, the accident occurred when the driver of a southbound Ford pickup truck with a snow plow struck a deer in the roadway. He lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of Klenow-Lampinen's northbound Chrysler mini-van.
Klenow-Lampinen, the driver of the van, was trapped in the vehicle and extrication required use of the Jaws of Life.
Klenow-Lampinen was transported to Marquette General Hospital where she died from her injuries. The pickup driver, a 33-year-old male from Gwinn, was treated and released.
Alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Assisting the state police at the scene of the accident were Forsyth Township Police Department, Rock EMS, Rampart EMS and Marquette County Rescue.
