Fairgrounds racing still being studied
By Dionna HarrisESCANABA - Racing enthusiasts may have reason to cheer as the U.P. State Fair Authority is continuing to investigate the feasibility of racing once again at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
Currently the Fair Authority is working with the Delta County Visitors and Convention Bureau to compile insurance information related to racing.
The Authority is also working with its Management Team (Delta County Commerce Center) and the Delta County Racing Association to potentially conduct three races on the existing race track for 2010 in the grandstand arena.
According to Vickie Micheau, who presented the management report to the Authority members, the Delta County Racing Association is committed to arranging for racers, establishing rules, providing technical support and providing information to assist in cost analysis.
"I have received a report from a representative from the Delta County Racing Association who attended Racing Promoters Workshop recently in Reno," said Micheau.
According to the report received by Micheau, the representative participated in seminars related to racing trends, emergency preparedness, marketing and various trade expositions.
"The DCRA has offered to assist in conducting three races during the 2010 season with limited expense to the fairgrounds," said Micheau.
She also said Herb Pomeroy, who is the facility and grounds manager for the fairgrounds was working to identify facility needs while the DCRA continues to work on the compilation of personnel and volunteers to work the races if the event becomes a reality.
