Announcement to be made at March 24 Business After Hours

ESCANABA - The grandstand acts which will be performing at the 2010 U.P. State Fair will be announced March 24.

That was part of the report presented by Vickie Micheau during a meeting of the full U.P. State Fair Authority Friday.

Micheau said in her management report there had been two meetings with Jayson Promotions regarding grandstand entertainment.

"Two offers were accepted, one is a classic country venue while the other is an up and coming country venue," said Micheau. "We are working on finalizing our rock music options."

Micheau said media promotion of the 2010 U.P. State Fair would begin on March 24 during a Business After Hours event to be held at the Ruth Butler Exhibition Building.

"This will be a multi-media event, with grandstand and midway acts being announced, along with the new Skerbeck carnival ride," she said.

As part of her report concerning the 2010 U.P. State Fair, Micheau reported Delta County Sheriff Gary Ballweg requested a law enforcement team be scheduled to work the fair due to the number of people expected to be in attendance for the inauguration of the new U.P. State Fair under the management of the U.P. State Fair Authority.

"It should also be noted," said Micheau, "that the Department of Agriculture signs have been replaced with the 2010 fair dates."

Micheau said work leading up to the 2010 fair has included a reorganization of the livestock advisory committee. Discussions are also being conducted concerning changes to the premium book, which will need a welcome letter from the Authority.

"The premium book will include rule changes, general welfare updates, and livestock testing will be provided by Dr. Mike Brunner and Ben Bartlett," said Micheau.

She added letters had been prepared and sent out, along with rules and entry forms to all county extension directors, 4-H youth agents, leaders and parents regarding junior steer show rules.

The deadline for entries to be submitted for the junior steer show is Feb. 15.
