Bernard Roy and Jessie Jeanette Landis of Cooks recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with an intimate party hosted by their children.
Bernard Landis and the former Jessie Weigandt were united in marriage Sept. 24, 1949, in Escanaba, by Justice of the Peace Henry Ranguette, and later by Rev. Dearl Abbot.
Their attendants were Jacob Landis Jr., brother of the groom, and Audrey Watchom, friend of the couple (and future bride of Jacob the best man).

Bernard retired in 1987 from his position with the Soo Line Railroad, where he was employed for 40 years. He enjoys raising gladiolas, metal detecting, woodworking and tinkering with inventions.
Jessie, a homemaker, enjoys solving crossword puzzles and watching television, especially the Detroit Tigers.
Both Bernard and Jessie, both members of Cooks Congregational Church, enjoy spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They also enjoy visiting casinos.
Together, the couple raised three children - Laurie Kaye (Doug) Rasmussen of Gladstone, Bryan Alec (Barbara) Landis of Cooks, and the late Allan Roy Landis. They also have six grandchildren - Robert (Jackie) Landis, Sault Ste. Marie; Christina (Gary) Knutson, Kinchloe; Bryan (Julie) Landis, Green Bay; Brad Landis, Cooks; and Lance and Heidi Rasmussen, Gladstone. The four grandsons each achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, which makes their grandparents exceptionally proud.
Bernard and Jessie also have three great-grandchildren - Mackenzie Knutson, and Robbie and Alexie Landis.
