ESCANABA - Escanaba residents Frank and Jean Berres celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 28 with a renewal of vows durign 4 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph/St. Patrick's church. The couple's three daughters presented the gifts. A reception was held in the couple's honor at Escanaba Elks Lodge 354, hosted by their children.
The former Jean DeGrand became the bride of Frank Berres 50 years ago on Nov. 28, 1959, at St. Joseph's Church, Escanaba.
Original bridal attendants were: Tookie (DeGrand) Scott and Vicki (DeGrand) DeGaynor, sisters of the bride; and Eleanor (Trotter) Edwards, friend of the bride.

Standing for the groom were: The late Patrick Berres, brother of the groom; Robert J. DeGrand, brother of the bride; and Robert Steuvens, the groom's friend.
Frank retired as a social worker from the State of Michigan in 1992. He also retired in 2005 from Quest Diagnostics as a courier.
Jean was a customer service representative with Bob Johnson Insurance and State Farm Insurance. She retired in 2002.
Both Frank and Jean are members of St. Joseph/St. Patrick's Parish and enjoy watching their grandchildren's sporting events. Frank is a member of the Escanaba Elks, Escanaba Eagles and enjoys cheering on the Eskymos.
Jean is a member of the Escanaba Elks Auxiliary and Escanaba Eagles Auxiliary.
Together, the couple raised five children - the late Mike (Katie) Berres, John (Michelle) Berres, Sue (Brian) Beckon, Margie (Pete) Gregoire, all of Escanaba, and Karen (Mark) Platt of Shawnee, Kan.
The couple also has 13 grandchildren.
Frank and Jean are residents of Escanaba.
