Bay College ends application fee

November 17, 2009
By Laura Mead

ESCANABA - In recognition of the financial difficulties many students are facing in today's economy, Bay College has removed the $25 application fee required for admission to the college.

The Bay College Board of Trustees took action to remove the application fee at its Nov. 11 meeting.

The lift on the application fee is effective immediately. Students who have paid the application fee for future semesters and have not registered for courses, will be fully refunded.

The $25 application fee has become a barrier to students applying and completing the admissions process, according to Cindy Carter, Bay College director of admissions.

"I have been hearing over the past few months, the voices of our students who have been struggling to pay the application fee," said Carter. "It has been incredible to watch the quick action of the college responding to the needs of the community we serve."

The action taken by the Bay College Board of Trustees reinforces its commitment to the students, and to the college's mission of providing accessible, high quality education, said Dr. Laura Coleman, Bay College President.

"Bay College is meant to be accessible to the community," she said. "We have been working hard to remove barriers to students starting their college education at Bay."

Students may apply to Bay College online at www.baycollege.edu or at the main campus in Escanaba or West Campus in Iron Mountain.
