If there is one area in our community and nation that needs attention, it is that of domestic violence.
Of course, October was Domestic Violence month. That is the time set aside to recognize a major problem that exists in our society. However, that time has continued on as the Alliance Against Violence and Abuse has put out a call seeking supplies.
This group provides a worthy service to our area by offering shelter to battered spouses and their children. It gives these people a chance to get out of danger and seek necessary help and sometimes serves as a life-saving refuge.
This is good, but it does not run on its own. It is a non-profit group that relies on a lot of assistance. The AAVA not only provides shelter for those who need it, but most times, people coming to the shelter have nothing but the clothes on their back.
This is where the rest of us can come in. The shelter needs our assistance to help with supplies that have been exhausted. These supplies include such items as food, household items, clothing for both women and all ages of children, cleaning supplies, money, gift cards and the list goes on and on.
We know it is a difficult time for a lot of people in the area, but that is when shelters such as these become busier. They need our help and we are asking that if you can to please support the cause. To find out more information about what is needed, you can call the AAVA office at 789-9207.
Please take time to do so. Remember, you may just be saving a life of someone who has been a victim of domestic abuse.
