King, VanEffen get special GNC honors

ESCANABA - Mitch VanEffen of Escanaba and Kent King of Gladstone earned special honors Monday on the Great Northern Conference all-star football team.
VanEffen was selected Offensive Player of the Year while King was named Lineman of the Year in voting by the coaches.
VanEffen was also selected as an offensive end and return specialist while King, who has made a verbal commitment to play at Central Michigan University, also made the team as an offensive lineman.
Linebacker Winston Larson of league champion Kingsford was selected Defensive Player of the Year and Chris Hofer of Kingsford was named Coach of the Year.
Kingsford won the league title at 4-0, Menominee was 3-1, Escanaba 2-2, Gladstone 1-3 and Marquette 0-4.
