ESCANABA - Betty Jean Summers, 68, 117 N. 19th St., Escanaba, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, after a long battle with C.O.P.D.
She was born in Watson on Nov. 27, 1940, the daughter of Emery J. and Edna M. (LaForest) Sexton.
Betty worked for various home care as a nurse's aide.
She loved fishing, camping, gardening, watching the wild life, and going for country rides.
Betty was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Escanaba.
Among the survivors include four sons, Timothy Barber of West Branch, Mich., Tom (Bonnie) Barber of Hale, Mich., Theodore Barber of Escanaba, and Terry (Connie) Barber of Gladwin, Mich.; stepchildren, Joe (Wendy) Summers of Two Rivers, Wis., and Tammy (Jim) Warren of Tennessee; six brothers, LeRoy (Geraldine) Sexton and Lester (Bonnie) Sexton both of Escanaba, Gary (Gayle) Sexton of Brampton, Glenn (Beverly) Sexton of Flat Rock, Dale (Tracy) Sexton of Gladstone, and Ronald (Wendy) Sexton of Gladstone; six sisters, Ruth Whitney of Escanaba, Ruby Harlson of Milwaukee, Elaine Mary Young of Bark River, Doris (Lester) LaCarte of Cornell, Phyllis Whitley of Escanaba, and Barbara (Kenneth) Stokes of Cornell; 10 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Efton Paul Barber; her second husband, John Summers Sr.; a stepson, John Summers, Jr.; and her brother, Roger.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 4-7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Brandon Kortor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Barber and Summers family with arrangements.
