ESCANABA - Escanaba residents Loren and Donna Woerpel recently celebrated 50 years of marriage during a June 13 gathering in the Red Barn at the U.P. State Fairgrounds. Special guest was Kathleen Coan, Donna's college roommate, who sang at the couple's wedding. Coan traveled from Tulsa, Okla., to perform the same two songs she had sung at the wedding 50 years ago. She was joined for one song by the couple's son, Mark Woerpel.

In addition, a duet was sung by the couple's daughter, Kristine Hovland, and granddaughter Lauren Hovland. The German Band played dancing music for the crowd, and local historical singer and songwriter Bill Jamerson played guitar and sang two songs dedicated to Loren's career as a forester.

The former Donna Henke, originally of Port Washington, Wis., became the bride of Loren Woerpel, originally of Stevens Point, Wis., during a ceremony at St. John's Lutheran Church in Port Washington, held June 13, 1959.
