ESCANABA - Roman and Gayle Gill of Escanaba celebrated 50 years of marriage on Aug. 8 on Mackinac Island with their immediate family. A noon dinner was held at the Grand Hotel and a 5:30 p.m. mass in their honor was celebrated at the St. Anne's Church on the Island by Fr. Rey Garcia.
Roman Gill married the former Gayle Ramseth in 1959 at St. Joseph's Church in Perkins. The nuptials were officiated by the late Fr. Edward Malloy. The only living attendants are friend, Joanne Morgan Tardiff of Gladstone, who served as bridesmaid, and Gayle's niece and godchild Janna Lovejoy of LaCenter, Wash., who served as flower girl.
Roman is retired from teaching and coaching at Escanaba Area High School and still enjoys swimming at the local YMCA, plus fishing and his yard work. Roman is the son of the late Martin and Mary Gill of Pulaski, Wis.

Gayle loves to volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul's downtown store and OSF Auxiliary. She is the daughter of the late Paul and Olga Ramseth of Rock.They both enjoy Packer and Brewer games whenever possible. They spend a lot of time at their cottage on Cook Lake and wintering in Orange Beach, Ala., since retirement.
In pre-celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, Roman and Gayle took an escorted nine-day tour to the Rose Bowl Extravaganza this past January via Passageway Travel.Roman and Gayle have been members at St. Anne's Church in Escanaba since they moved here in 1967. They enjoy spending time with their family and friends and especially their two grandchildren.
The couple has two sons, Christopher (Linda) Gill of Goshen, Ind., and Robert Gill of Aurora, Ill. They also have two grandchildren, Martina Gill of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Joshua Gill of Goshen, Ind.
