BARK RIVER William "Bill" and Karlene Hall of Bark River celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary June 21, in the company of their family.

The former Karlene Louise Welk married William Norman Hall June 21, 1969, at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Riverside, Calif. At the time, Bill, son of the late Edwin and Lois Hall of Bark River, was stationed at March Air Force Base.

The couple moved to the Upper Peninsula in February 1970 after Bill was discharged from the service.

He has been employed with Mead Paper in Escanaba for 39 years and volunteers with the Bark River Fire Department

Karlene, a homemaker, loves spending time with her two grandchildren, doing yard work and gardening. She has served the Bark River area for more than 30 years as a freelance photo- journalist and correspondent, writing for U.P. and Wisconsin newspapers and magazines.

Both are members of New Life Assembly of God Church, Escanaba.

During their time off, the couple enjoys spending time at their trailer with family and friends at River's Bend Campgrounds in Iron Mountain.

The Halls have three daughters, Monique Marie (Joe) Nelson of Lansing and Danielle Kae and Angelech Louise Hall, both of Bark River. They also have two grandchildren, Brianna Elizabeth and Caleb William Nelson of Lansing.
