Legion leaders to traverse Upper Michigan

Anderson, Lincoln Park, along with American Legion Auxiliary State President Suzanne Knapp, St. Clair Shores, and Sons of the American Legion State Commander Greg Price, Huron Township, will lead an official visit to 11 posts, units and squadrons across the Upper Peninsula Jan. 18-25.
Cmdr. Anderson, Lincoln Park Post 67, is a Vietnam War veteran who served in the Army's 24th Infantry Division in Augsburg, Germany. He is the elected head of close to 90,000 Legionnaires
Representing more than 30,000 Auxiliaires is Pres. Knapp, Mt. Clemens Unit 4.
From Garden City Squadron 396, representing almost 14,000 Sons, is SAL Cmdr. Price.
The trio's week-long trek offers the opportunity to review programs now available to veterans, to assess how well they are serving the vets and their needs. In addition, they will make tour stops in Sault Ste. Marie, Newberry, Munising, Marquette, Greenwood, Baraga, Lake Linden, Stambaugh, Iron Mountain and Stephenson.
On the 20th, while in the Marquette area, the American Legion leaders are scheduled to visit the DJ Jacobetti State Home for Veterans. On the 22nd, they will visit veterans at Iron Mountain's Oscar Johnson VA Medical Center.
The group is scheduled to arrive at Gladstone American Legion Post 71 for the start of the 2009 Mid-Winter Conference of American Legion Posts, Jan. 23-25, which is being hosted this year by Post 71.
With 2.7 million members, the American Legion is the nation's largest war veterans organization. The American Legion Auxiliary, with one million members, is the nation's largest women's patriotic organization.
