Defendants sentenced in court

ESCANABA - The following people were recently sentenced in Delta County Circuit Court in unrelated cases.

Eric Lee Halfaday, 23, of N15446 Cedarview Dr., Wilson, pleaded guilty to attempted retail fraud, first degree. He was sentenced to six months in jail and given credit for two days served. He will be placed on probation for 12 months. Halfaday was ordered to pay $1,872 in joint restitution and $390 in fines and costs.

Kristin Marie Champion, 25, of 6071 23.6 Lane, Gladstone, pleaded guilty to a probation violation with the underlying offense of possession of a fraudulent financial transaction device. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and given credit for three days served.

Karen Eve Rose, 36, of 3700 Gijik St., Escanaba, pleaded guilty to a probation violation with the underlying offenses of uttering and publishing and attempted uttering and publishing. She was sentenced to 15 days jail and given credit for three days served.

Brandy Jo DeHaan, 29, of 328 N. 12th St., Escanaba, pleaded guilty to a probation violation with the underlying offenses of two counts of controlled substance - maintaining a drug house. She was sentenced to 30 days in jail and given credit for three days served.

Ginger Ann Aker, 27, of 308 2nd Ave. S., Escanaba, pleaded no contest to attempted larceny in a building. She was sentenced to three months in jail and given credit for two days served. Aker was ordered to pay $246 in restitution and $120 in fines and costs.

Joseph Robert Zalanskas, 32, of 16 Pinewood Dr., Gladstone, pleaded guilty to non-sufficient checks, three within 10 days, and pleaded guilty to non-sufficient checks, $100 or more but less than $500. He was sentenced to three months in jail on each count to be served concurrently. He was given credit for 12 days served. He will be placed on probation for 12 months. Zalanskas was ordered to pay $430 in fines and costs.

Shane Michael Peerenboom, 25, of 1501 Sheridan Road, Escanaba, pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of a building, $1,000 or more but less than $20,000. He was sentenced to five months in jail and given credit for one day served. He will be placed on probation for 12 months. Peerenboom was ordered to pay $5,040 in joint restitution and $330 in fines and costs.

Manuel David Sagataw, 21, of N14380 County Road 553, Apt. 1, Wilson, pleaded guilty to controlled substance - attempted felony. He was sentenced to 141 days in jail and given credit for 141 days served. Sagataw was ordered to pay $340 in restitution and $120 in fines and costs.

Scott Michael Deacon, 28, of 910 6th Ave. S., Escanaba, pleaded no contest to resisting and obstructing conservation officers. He was sentenced to two months in jail and given credit for three days served. Deacon was ordered to pay $120 in fines and costs.

Cases sent to circuit court

ESCANABA - The following individuals were recently bound over to Delta County Circuit Court on unrelated charges.

David Leonard Porath, 39, lodged at Clinton Township Prison, was bound over on one count of accosting children, less than 16 years of age, for immoral purposes. The felony carries a punishment of four years in prison and a fine of $4,000. The charge stems from a March 25, 2007, incident in Escanaba. Cash bond was set at $25,000.

Theodore Lamarkus Davis, 27, Detroit, was bound over on one count of controlled substance - delivery/manufacturing marijuana. The felony carries a punishment of four years in prison and a $20,000 fine. The charges stems from a Nov. 5 incident in Gladstone. Cash bond was set at $20,000.

Kenneth Charles Wickstrom, 45, of 1600 S. 30th St., Apt. 137, Escanaba, was bound over on one count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, third offense. The felony carries a punishment of five years in prison and a $5,000 fine. The charge stems from an Aug. 16, 2008, incident in Escanaba.

DISTRICT COURT

IMPAIRED DRIVING

Matthew Theodore Wiltzius, 33, of 1422 Montana Ave., Gladstone, pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while impaired and pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license, first offense; 15 days jail; 12 months probation; $1,195 in fines and costs, community service in lieu of fines and costs.

DRUG CHARGES

Nichole Lynne Peterson, 18, of 5594 Chaison Road, Gladstone, pleaded guilty to controlled substance - possession of marijuana (aid and abet) and pleaded guilty to contributing to the delinquency of children. She was sentnenced to 30 days jail, community service in lieu of 30 days jail; 12 months probation; $540 fines and costs.

ZERO TOLERANCE

Eric Thomas Bourdeau, 19, of 943 Stephenson Ave., Escanaba, pleaded guilty to zero tolerance. He was sentenced to five days jail, community service in lieu of five days jail; six months probation; $745 fines and costs.

LICENSE VIOLATIONS

Jeannette Ann Helton, 24, of 6404 1st Ave., Garden, pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license, first offense; $395 fines and costs.

Clifford Allen Boggs, 26, Marinette, pleaded guilty to driving on a suspended license, first offense; $495 fines and costs.

HUNTING VIOLATION

Kristopher Michael Shaw, 23, Monroe, Mich., pleaded guilty to taking an illegal deer. He was assesed $495 fines and costs; $500 restitution; loss of hunting privileges for balance of 2008; condemnation of bow.

TRESPASSING

Shane Allen Hentz, 27, of 2655 Triple Creek 23rd Road, Cornell, pleaded no contest to trespassing; credit for time served; $50 fine.
