Myrtle Ann Anderson, who resides on County Road 577 in Vulcan, was driving a pickup truck west on Old U.S. 2 & 41, near 400 Road, when she made a left-hand turn and failed to yield to an oncoming train, said Sheriff Brett Botbyl this morning.
The 2004 GMC truck was struck by the Wisconsin Central Railroad train at 8:45 p.m. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. No train cars were derailed, the sheriff said.
When asked how the crash occurred, Botbyl said, "We're waiting for toxicology results." He said alcohol could have been a factor in the accident.
