Former Eskymos play at Marinette

MARINETTE - Two former All-U.P. players from Escanaba are playing on the Wisconsin-Marinette basketball team this year.

Point guard Jordan Young averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists and earned Wisconsin Collegiate Conference first-team all-state honors last year as a freshman.

Sophomore Eric Kutches will provide inside depth for the Buccaneers. He played football at Northern Michigan University as a freshman before transferring to Marinette.


LSSU women win Disney tourney title

ORLANDO - The Lake Superior State women's basketball team started the season strong by winning the Disney Classic here over the weekend.

The Lakers won three games to take the title, beating Alaska Anchorage 70-65 in overtime Sunday in the finale. The Seawolves were ranked fifth in NCAA Division II.

LSSU's Alyssa Vanderwall was named most valuable player. Shelle Rochon of North Central plays for the Lakers.


Craft show benefits Esky baseball

ESCANABA - A craft show will be held Saturday at Escanaba High School to benefit the self-funded Eskymo baseball program. It runs from 10-4 in the commons, with more than 70 vendors on hand. Admission is $1.


Road races set

in Gladstone

GLADSTONE - A pair of benefit road races will be held in Gladstone this month.

The Veterans Day 5K run/walk is Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. in Veterans Park. There will be 12 age groups. Proceeds will go to the Delta County Veterans Memorial.

The Gladstone Turkey Trot 5K run/walk will be held Nov. 27, starting at 9 a.m. at Kid's Kingdom in VanCleve Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

Proceeds benefit Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul. Canned goods or donations will be accepted.

Gladstone football tickets on sale

GLADSTONE - Tickets for Saturday's Division 5 district football game at Negaunee are available at the Gladstone Activities office from 8 a.m. to 3:30 today and Friday.

The Braves play at 1 p.m. Saturday.


Esky QB Club holds annual meeting

ESCANABA - The Escanaba QB Club's annual meeting is Nov. 13 at Pacino's Pub. Social begins at 6 and dinner at 7. For details, contact John Berres (280-8901).
