Culinary federation promotes healthy eating
ESCANABA - Wednesday is American Culinary Federation's Child Hunger Day. In honor of this day, the ACF Upper Michigan Chapter will be hosting its "Beat The Sweets Swap Your Treats" event during Franklin Elementary School's lunch break. All students will be able to bring in their regular school lunch snack and swap it for a customized healthier snack prepared by the ACF chefs.
Students will have a chance to see alternatives to the typical snacks they see in supermarkets and view nutritional information, organizers said.
Snacks will be prepared from some of the top local ACF chefs from restaurants like Pacinos, Stonehouse, Irish Oaks, and The Island Resort and Casino. All snacks swapped by the students will then be donated to local food shelters. If students don't have a snack it will not be a problem. Chef Chapman will challenge the students to fill a 10-gallon tub with snacks to donate.
