Election forum planned

ESCANABA - A General Election Candidate Forum will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Escanaba City Council Chambers at city hall.

The event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters, Business and Professional Women, American Association of University Women and Delta County Chamber of Commerce.

The Forum will feature the candidates in four contested races in the November election for U.S. House of Representatives 1st District, Michigan House of Representatives 108th District, and Delta County Commissioners District Four and the Delta County treasurer race. Questions may be submitted prior to the forum to Ann at 786-3058 or by e-mail to lwvdeltacounty@yahoo.com.

Written audience questions will also be collected during the forum. The moderator will be League of Women Voters Delta County member Patricia Frueh.

Local radio station WDBC/WKYX and Charter Communications channel 21 will broadcast the forum live. It will be rebroadcast on Charter Communications channel 8 prior to the Nov. 4 election. The dates and times for the rebroadcast are Oct. 21 at 2 p.m., Oct. 31 at 2 p.m., and Nov. 3 at 3 p.m.

Candidates invited to appear at the forum are: U.S. House of Representatives 1st District, two-year term - Tom Casperson, Republican; Bark Stupak, Democrat, incumbent; Jean Treacy, Green Party; Joshua J. Warren, U.S. Taxpayers; and Daniel Grow, Libertarian. Michigan State House of Representatives 108th District, two-year term - Judy Nerat, Democrat, and Mike Falcon, Republican. Delta County Treasurer, four-year term - Richard "Rick" Micheau, Republican, and Sandra Buckland, Democrat, incumbent. Delta County Commissioner District Four, two-year term - Darrell E. Bengry, Democrat, incumbent, and Ron Powers, no party affiliation.
