Drowning victim's body recovered
CRYSTAL FALLS - Iron County sheriff's deputies recovered the body of an Illinois man who apparently drowned Friday after his fishing boat capsized on First Fortune Lake near Crystal Falls.
William Long, 86, Orion, Ill., died in the accident.
Deputies received a report Friday afternoon of a capsized boat on the lake. They, along with personnel from the Department of Natural Resources, investigated the incident.

Work starting on Beach House Road
ESCANABA - The Escanaba Department of Public Works Tuesday will start pulversizing and repaving Beach House Road from Jenkins Drive to the bridge on Aronson Island.
This stretch of Beach House Road will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and possibly part of Thursday. Paving will start Friday and should be completed that day, weather permitting.
Access to the Aronson Island Boat Launch, Municipal Beach and parking areas will be closed between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Alternative boat launch facilities can be found at the North Shore Boat Launch.

Choral society plans concert rehearsal
ESCANABA - Tuesday is the next rehearsal for the Bay de Noc Choral Society's Winter Concert, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 7. Rehearsals are 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at Bethany Lutheran Church, 202 S. 11th St., Escanaba. Use the 1st Avenue S. entrance.

Gladstone Junior High plans open house
GLADSTONE - The Gladstone Junior High School will be having an open house at 6:30 on Wednesday. All parents and students are welcome. An ice cream social, sponsored by the PT3, along with other snacks will be available.

Schoolcraft Election Commission to meet
MANISTIQUE - Schoolcraft County Election Commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the first floor conference room of the Schoolcraft County Courthouse, Manistique. The purpose of the meeting is to proof and review ballots for the Nov. 4 general election.
