ESCANABA - John "Jack" Holmes, 75, 327 N. 12th St., Escanaba, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
John was born on June 22, 1933, and raised in Escanaba, the son of Healy and Kathryn (Williams) Holmes.
He was employed with Anthony & Company for 35 years, retiring in 1992.
On June 21, 1958, John Holmes married the former Muriel Oseen at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Escanaba.
John was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and the Escanaba Eagles Aerie 1088.
He was involved with slow pitch softball, an active bowler, enjoyed hunting and fishing, but his greatest love was his family.
Among the survivors include his wife, Muriel of Escanaba; children, Colleen (Tony) Otero of Tampa, Fla., John (Paula) Holmes of Felch, Stephen Holmes of Iron Mountain, Christopher Holmes of Clearwater, Fla., and Kathy (John) Rudenberg of Hyde; 11 grandchildren, Anthony Otero, Alicianna Otero, Samantha (Joseph) Ivacko, Alison (Robert) Bozik, Stephen Lee Holmes Jr., Michael Holmes, Courtney Holmes, Jonathon Kolaske, Jesseca Kolaske, Nicole Rudenberg, and Halley Rudenberg; two great-grandchildren, Kaydince Bozik and Auna Ivacko; a sister, Betty Boyer of Escanaba; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Virginia Westerlund and Jean Hagman; and brother, Robert "Red" Holmes.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Sept. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at noon with Rev. Rick Courier officiating.
A luncheon will be held at the Escanaba Eagles Club following the funeral Mass.
Burial will be in Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Holmes family with arrangements.
