Duane “Rob” Lewis

ESCANABA - Duane "Rob" Lewis, 51, of 2701 5th Ave. S., Escanaba, formerly of Grand Rapids and Muskegon, passed away Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at his home following a lengthy and courageous battle with lung cancer.

Rob was born Dec. 18, 1956, in Grand Rapids, to Ronald and Doris (Mathews) Lewis.

He spent most of his life in the Grand Rapids area. The last several years Rob lived in both Iron Mountain and Escanaba.

He was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed building and remodeling homes. He took great pride in his work.

Rob was a people person and enjoyed going out and having a good time. He was an avid pool player and was the blackjack king at the casino. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles especially Harley-Davidson bikes.

He was recently united in marriage to Sylvi Carrington on Aug. 7, 2008, in Marquette.

Including his wife, Sylvi, he is survived by a brother, Kelly (Lisa) Lewis of Grand Rapids; two nephews, Jeremy and Nathaniel Lewis; stepfather, Charles W. Mosley; stepson, Andrew Bisson of Escanaba; and dear and special friend, Donald Peterson of Muskegon, (he was like a father figure to Rob).

He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Ronald Lewis.

Memorial services celebrating the life of Rob will be Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1 p.m. at the Skradski-Boyce Funeral Home in Escanaba with Deacon Lew Vaillencourt officiating.

The Lewis family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Lewis family will gather for a time of food and fellowship immediately following services at the Meadowbrook Apartments in Escanaba.
