HERMANSVILLE - Bob and Lois Whitens, Hermansville, celebrated 50 years of marriage July 19 with a renewal of vows and blessing of the rings during a Mass officiated by Fr. Vichich at St. John Neuman Church. Immediately following, a reception in the couple's honor was hosted by their children at the American Legion Hall in Hermansville, with 120 guests in attendance. Featured was a photographic display of the family through the years, along with a special musical presentation by family members.
The couple was originally wed July 19, 1958 at St. Francis Xavier Church (now St. John Neumann) in Spalding. Attendants were the late Richard Whitens as best man, Sharon (Murray) Neveau, Lawrence Murray and the late Kathy (Whitens) Menard.
Bob retired in 2001 from his 27-year career as a teacher and coach at North Central High School in Powers. He had also been employed as a a pipefitter with Local 506.

Lois' occupation was full-time mother and homemaker.
Currently, Bob and Lois both enjoy trapping and spending time with their grandchildren. Bob is also a Meyer Township Board trustee and the choir director at St. John Neumann Catholic Church. He enjoys farming and fishing. Lois is a member of St. John Neumann Ladies Circle and she enjoys flower gardening.
Bob and Lois have five children - Debbie (Kim) Recla of Iron Mountain, Natalie (Peter) Folcik of Powers, Cindy (Joe) Knsella of Stevens Point, Wis., Robert (Peg) Whitens of Qinnesec, and Melissa (Tim) Mattson of Wrightstown, Wis. In addition, the couple has 10 grandchildren.
