Charlebois wins feature at Sands

SANDS - Matt Charlebois of Escanaba won his first feature race of the season at Thunder Valley Raceway Sunday.

After taking third in the second heat, Charlebois won the 4/6 cylinder division feature ahead of Aaron Sprowl and Ron Borchert. Sprowl was fast qualifier in 17.90.

Alan Yelle swept honors in Late Model, taking qualifier (15.92), dash for cash, heat and feature events.

Ray Keskimaki was Super Stock fast qualifier (16.42), then won the feature.


Eskymo Fan Club workbee Thursday

ESCANABA - The Eskymo Fan Club will hold a workbee at 6 p.m. Thursday at the renovated Escanaba Athletic Field for the season opener. Weeds must be trimmed, the stadium concourse must be trimmed and paver bricks must be washed by the concession stand and restrooms must be cleaned.

Eskymo fan bus

ESCANABA - A fan bus is being planned for the Escanaba jayvee and varsity football games at Alpena Sept. 5. The cost $35 and payment is due to hold a seat. Contact the activities office to sign up.

Irish Oaks men

GLADSTONE - Dave Harris fired a 1-under-par 35 Monday in the Irish Oaks Golf Course men's league. Matt Smith had 35, John Dupont, Matt Eugate and Gary Wery 37, James Smith 38 and Bill Jensen and Chuck Peterson 39.

Gladstone men

GLADSTONE - Joe Quinn carded a 2-under-par 34 Monday in the Gladstone Golf Club men's league. Steve Bratonia had 35, Jim Scully 36, Wayne Marshall, Pat Quinn, Mark Peterson 38 and Wally Patterson 39.

Winker nails ace

GLADSTONE - Jim Winker of Escanaba had a hole-in-one Monday at Gladstone Golf Club. He used a 7-iron on the 160-yard 11th hole.

Skating registration

ESCANABA - Regisration for the Escanaba Area Junior Hockey Association and the Escanaba Area Figure Skating Club will be held Thursday at Wells Sports Complex from 5-8 p.m. For details, call the complex (786-3995).

Men's softball

KIPLING - The National Gaurd Patriots won the Kipling 35-and-over men's slowpitch softball title Monday, beating Irish Oaks Country Club 14-10. Joe Porter was 4-for-4 and Jim Lawson was 3-for3 while Lawson, Todd Wilkins and Richie Blowers had home runs.
