NORWAY - U.P. Arctic Blast closed out the regular season with a 36-22 Northern Elite Football League loss to the talented and undefeated Superior (Wis.) Stampede here Saturday at Ronberg Field.
Superior, which intercepted five passes, scored twice in the fourth quarter to snap a 22-22 tie.
"The Stampede have been mentioned among the top teams in the country in semi-professional football," said Blast general manager Andy Bray. "Their speed was evident along with a well balanced passing and running game."
Chad Olson paced the Blast with 135 yards on 19 carries and touchdown runs of one and 10 yards. He followed his second score at 8:40 of the fourth quarter with a two-point conversion run.
Jeff Taff provided the other Blast touchdown with a 10-yard run. Alpha's Levi Jarvi kicked a pair of extra points.
Craig Bilski forced a fumble after a catch deep in Blast territory and made a pass kockdown to stop a Stampede drive,
"Craig came into his own with an outstanding performance on defense," Bray said. "Jon Gorzinski was his usual self leading the team in tackles and forcing a fumble.
"Joe Kutzera continues to improve on the defensive side of the ball."
Blast (4-3 overall, 3-3 NEFL) remain in the hunt for an NEFL playoff berth. They return July 12, meeting the East Metro Phoenix at 4 p.m. in Minneapolis.
