Born in Escanaba, on Feb. 9, 1941, he was the son of the late Arthur John and Mildred Ethel (Martinson) King. Matthew was a graduate of Iron Mountain High School in Iron Mountain and moved to Kenosha in 1971.
He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 5, 1959, was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1962, and received the Good Conduct Medal. He then served in the U.S. Army Reserves until Nov. 4, 1965.
On July 2, 1964, he married Donna Schlemmer in Chicago.
He had been employed by Cherry Electric as a technician, retiring in 2003.
Matthew attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church. He enjoyed stamp collecting, bingo and fishing and also playing cards, chess, and guitar.
Surviving is his wife, Donna of Kenosha; a son, Kevin (Heather) King of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Candace (Travis) Dykes of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Lois (Ron) Kern of Escanaba; two brothers, Edward (Arlene) King of Escanaba, and Raymond (Judy) King of Lynchburg, Va.; six nieces; eight nephews; and several great-nieces and -nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Anita Jamison.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 27, at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Union Grove, Wis, at 11 a.m.
