CORNELL — Kenneth F. Wigand, celebrated almost 81 years of life before passing away at the Veterans Hospital in Iron Mountain on Thursday, May 29, 2008, one month before his birthday. Each day was precious and he lived life to its fullest with his greatest joys being his family, his friends and life on the Escanaba River in Cornell.

Kenneth Wigand was born on June 29, 1927, to Agnes and William Wigand of Wells. He graduated from Escanaba High School and then entered the U.S. Army. He served as a medic in Germany during World War II and was a life-long member of the Escanaba VFW.

He returned to Escanaba and worked for Chicago Northwestern Railroad, Sav Mor IGA, the Credit Union and finally as Credit Manager/Assistant Manager for Montgomery Ward before its closing and Catalog Store Manager in Watertown, Wis.

Ken and Jacqueline Bradley Lemerand were married at home by Mayor Bob Bink on March 1, 1973, and celebrated 35 years together. Ken and Jackie owned Wardy’s Bar in north town for more than 15 years, and met and made friends everyday. Those were the days when a glass of beer and a shot only cost a dollar, and family and friends were priceless.

Ken was active in the Delta County Democratic Party for many years, with a strong sense of community and a love for his country.

Ken’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. His daughter Karen lives in Escanaba, and his daughter Jodi lives in Spalding with her husband Will and children Justin, Bradley, Adam and Willy.

Ken also loved animals of all kinds, especially his dogs and will be sadly missed by Toby and Buddy.

Ken Wigand was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and William; his brother, Jim; his uncle, Bernard Seidl; and dear friend, Ole (Phillip) Williams.

He leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline; daughters, Karen Wigand, Jodi (Will) Kleikamp and Judi Waleck; brothers, Ron (Audrey) Wigand of Milwaukee, Jack (Corrine) Wigand of Dana Lake; step-sons, Jon (Becky) Lemerand and Ed (Sam Kurz) Spears; aunt, Grace Seidl; cousin, Bob (Margaret) Seidl; and several dearly loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Kenneth Wigand’s Life at his home in Cornell on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 4 to 7 p.m. Private funeral services are being arranged by Allo Funeral Homes, Escanaba.
