James William ‘Jim’ Peacock Sr.

GLADSTONE — James William “Jim” Peacock Sr., 63, of 6492 Marble 23.25 Lane, Gladstone, passed away Wednesday morning, March 26, 2008, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba following a lengthy illness.

James was born Sept. 22, 1944, in Trenary, the son of Edwin Stephen and Alice Louise (Kropp) Peacock Sr. Jim was raised in Escanaba and he was a 1963 graduate of the Escanaba High School.

He was united in marriage to the former Dian Essary on March 21, 1964, in Long Beach, Calif. Following their marriage, Jim and Dian returned to Gladstone where they made their home and raised their five children.

Jim attended Bay College and later Central Michigan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in teaching in 1975. In 1979, Jim received the Conservation Educator of the Year Award from The National Wildlife Federation.

Jim taught Michigan Environmental Awareness, Conservation, I.P.S. and I.S.S. at Gladstone High School from 1975 until his retirement in 2004.

He always enjoyed hosting his wild game feed at Gladstone High School and taking high school students on survival training trips to Canada.

Jim’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, gold panning, gardening, metal detecting, and spending time with family.

He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone.

In addition to his wife Dian, survivors include three sons, James William (Beverly) Peacock Jr. of Escanaba, Randy (Anne) Peacock of Cape Cod, Mass., Jeremy (Hadele) Peacock of Escanaba; two daughters, Tammy (Rod) Rosa of Gladstone, Shelley Doneau of Gladstone; three brothers, Edwin (Lea) Peacock Jr. of Escanaba, Victor (Betty) Peacock of Perronville, Milo (Tammy) Peacock of Perkins; three sisters, Anna May (Jim) Revis of Perronville, Ruby (Don) Orr of Glennie, Mich., Diane (Wally) Godfrey of Gladstone; 14 grandchildren, Samantha, Jacob, Joshua, Sophia, Tony, James III, Amanda, Nicholas, Clint, Kaylea, Sabrina, Cassey, Gavin and Lennox; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy, and two brothers, Roy and Charlie.

Jim’s family will receive friends on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Grace Baptist Church in Gladstone.

Funeral services celebrating the life of James Peacock Sr. will follow at 5 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Stephen Patrick officiating. Luncheon will follow services in the church parish hall.

Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone.
