Richard ‘Dick’ Freeman

ESCANABA — Richard “Dick” Freeman, 79, of Escanaba, formerly of Ford River, passed away Wednesday morning, March 12, 2008, at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Richard was born Feb. 23, 1929, in Indianapolis, Ind., the son of Archie and Lillian (Hendricks) Freeman.

Richard attended and graduated from the Escanaba Senior High School in 1948 and on Jan. 29, 1950, Richard was united in marriage to the former Carol Arntzen.

Throughout his life, Richard worked and eventually retired from the Harnischfeger Corporation and Chatfield Machine Company.

Survivors include two sons, Richard (Tina) Freeman of Lansing, Robert (Melody Holmes) Freeman of Norway; two daughters, Linda (Tim) Lantto of Columbus, Ohio, Carolyn (Pete Schuster) Pepin of Escanaba; and one sister, Joan (Ron) Anderson of Gladstone. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Archie and Lillian, and his wife, Carol, Richard was preceded in death by one son, James, and three sisters and one brother.

Richard’s family will be planning a memorial service to celebrate his life at a future date and time.

Committal services will take place, following memorial services, at the South Ford River Cemetery.
