Laurin named CUP MVP
RAPID RIVER — Molly Laurin of Carney-Nadeau was named most valuable player in the Central U.P. League by girls basketball coaches here Thursday.
Brooke Granquist of North Central was the only unanimous selection on the first team.
She was joined by Katie Erickson of Rapid River, Sammy Trowbridge of Superior Central, Hillary Melin of Bark River-Harris and Hannah Eichhorn of Carney-Nadeau.
The second team includes Mariah Roberts of Big Bay de Noc, Casey LaBonte of North Central, Lindsey Coleman and Liz Flesher of Superior Central and Megan Kleiman of Bark River-Harris.
Receiving honorable mention are Renee Urbanc of Bark River-Harris, Tessa Dani of Carney-Nadeau, Anna Viau of Mid Peninsula, Casey Fazer of North Central and Chelsea Pistulka and Kayla Shope of Rapid River.
Laurin, Granquist, Erickson, Amanda Zawacki of Bark River-Harris and Brooke Verbrigghe of Superior Central comprise the all-star defensive team.
Flesher was the league’s top free throw marksman, hitting 77 percent of her 31 attempts.
Viau received the individual sportsmanship award and Mid Peninsula received the team award.
Superior Central swept team championship honors, the varsity finishing 11-1 for the first title in school history and the jayvees went 12-0.
