16,000 more slots for Michigan preschoolers

LANSING (AP) — As many as 16,000 more 4-year-olds will be able to attend preschool in Michigan this fall, thanks to a big boost in the state’s early education budget....

"It's a life-changer,"

Taylor-Costen said Wilma Taylor-Costen, assistant superintendent for academics in the Detroit Public Schools.

"We have 64 kids.

Last year we had 16.

That change was totally market driven.

There was a need," Speck said.

The district is working on filling a fourth, according to Superintendent Randy Speck.

Common sense tells us that,

"what is more important, is the “need” for children to bond with their parents during the most formative years in the child’s development",

and “educators” are failing to publicize that aspect of a child’s development.

What do our Scandinavian cousins know about child development,

that we fail to understand in this country?

Other than poor parenting and poor parent-child bonding,

what are we accomplishing with too much needless “pre-schooling”,

when there is such an absence of parenting and parent bonding,

beginning too early in a child’s life and development in this country?

Free baby-sitting seems to be paramount with our too young procreators,

baby-makers, who spend too little time parenting and bonding with their progeny.

Mature teachers, those who have many years in the teaching profession,

have long recognized the absence of good parenting and parent-child relationships that has become the norm over the years.

“16,000 more “pre-school” children will be afforded taxpayer financed free baby-sitting services…”

That is the way the article should be headlined.

Consider the ‘difference’ in social and educational ‘values’ that Scandinavian’s place on child development.

Most Scandinavian’ countries will not allow the start of formal education until children reach, or pass the age of seven years.

Scandinavian’s believe that child-parent bonding relationships are preemptive of any formal educative effort,

and of primary concern, before any attempt is made at sending the child off to be institutionalized in the education process.

Parents are encouraged to spend time and effort parenting and bonding directly with their children until the child attains the age of seven.
