Once again.. like the semi truck collision, where to elders died. Another case of elder drivers not paying attention. They crossed the center later, can they not grip and spin that wheel with decrepit of old hands? GET OLD PEOPLE OFF THE ROAD! We need to start a group like Mothers Against Drunk Driving. We don't want to have to go out on the road and fear that some elder who can't drive appropriately anymore might kill us!

I'd love to wrap my hands around concernedresidents NECK right now! You've got a lot of nerve! I sincerely hope you're not referring to the two people killed in Gladstone at the light by a Semi Truck driver on a suspended license with drugs in his system. You're really dispicable. Just because a person is elderly, doesn't mean they shouldn't have the privilege to drive. You're a nut!

Someday, if concerned resident is lucky enough, he or she will be old and think he or she is doing just fine driving. How will it feel then to hear people talk about how the elderly shouldn't drive? And yes, he/she is referring to the Swifts. No class!

A greater concern that I have about drivers, young, old, and everywhere in between is the use of cell phones while driving. I want to scream bloody murder while driving behind someone on their phone, regardless of age. They are not paying any attention at all to their driving, their head all cocked to one side holding phone on shoulder. It seems, also, that here are more and more elderly people on phones now, too. Regardless of age, though, hang up your*****phone or pull over to the side of the road. You are dangerous.....and one can always tell when somebody is on their phone just by the way they are driving (slow, inattentive, not using blinkers, all over the road, etc.). As for the elderly driving on our roads, I think they should be given a test, just like our young teens do, when reaching a certain age....SOME of them ARE a danger and shouldn't be driving.

Honestly, I have the stance I have before I've witnessed the way elders driver numerous times! In fact just yesterday, this is no B.S. I was waiting to get on the highway on the road between The Store and St. Anne's church and a car of elderly people pulled out going left and misjudged how far away a semi has and the distance it was traveling at and the semi driver had to lay on the horn and quickly move into the other lane and if someone from the otherside had been merging onto the highway, the semi would've rear-ended one of the cars!

I also agree on the stance with cell phones, I can't stand to see someone holding up traffic because they only have use of one hand for drive because their other hand is on their phone against their ear. And by the way my comment is no attack on a specific family. It's a fact as you get older, your sight gets worse, your reaction time isn't what it use to be. Elderly people driving are known for causing accidents and well as showcased here even fatalities. When I get old I only hope I can recognize how I am not what I use to be and will not want to be one of those people driving at 20mph in the wrong lane in a 35mph in a car the size of a boat.

Also the fact that no one who has commented, is willing to agree that elder's are a major cause of driving-related accidents is somewhat astonishing. Yes, I will agree teenagers are an equally major problem. But turning a blind-eye to old people driving simply out of sympathy is ridiculous. Just wait until an old person pulls out onto the highway doing 20mph in front of your child doing the appropriate speed and they rear end the old person and there's possibly a death in your family. Let's see where you stand then. If you have a sight problem you should have to going through the process of getting a license every other year because judging distances seems to be a big problem among the old.

The bigger concern for all of us is the stoned driver who is on all his/her medical marijuana, other illegal drugs and prescription drugs in their system at the same time. Let alone alcohol in their system. Yes elderly can be a danger but we now have 18-20 year olds getting medical marijuana. What a sad society we have become.

I agree that seniors are needing a stricter set of standards to get their licenses...because face it..we've been at the DMV and seen the results of them getting grandfathered in because of a proctor who felt sorry for them. It's a shame to take their licenses away because that's the only freedom they have left...being a shut in must really suck. My mother had Alzheimer's and still had her license...which almost ended in disaster...pulled out in front of someone and almost got killed...and blamed the other driver. Too many have outlived their friends and take a chance...their should be a Data bus...maybe just less of them...to be cost efficient...no good solution here I'm afraid.
