I'm old enough to remember when they actually taught "penmanship" in school, but I have to say who cares if they can read cursive anymore? Not a real vital skill these days.

NOTHING, IS MORE IMPORTANT for A CHILD’S EDUCATION

to proceed in an orderly fashion,

- until PARENTs insure that these four (4) items are accomplished with or to:

PERFECTIOn

NO CHILD SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO advance IN ANY SCHOOL SYSTEM until the child is able to demonstrate proficiency and mastering AT GRADE LEVEL, the basic

"3 r's."

3) Real and positive abilities to WRITE

- that also implies the ability to put in words critical thinking skills

and the ability to organize thoughts into meaningful words, sentences and paragraphs…

AT GRADE LEVEL

4) Real and positive abilities to perform ARITHMETIC,

- the ability and skill to perform basic arithmetic functions…

Parents,

school systems, and too,

there are too many educators who OVERLOOK, the obvious,

and instead, are too readily willing to embrace the so-called “latest-and-greatest” educational FAD(s).

The overlooked OBVIOUS little ‘trifle(s)’

referred to are:

1) Real and positive - PARENTING

- parent’s must be ready, willing and able to draw that proverbial ‘line in the sand’

ILLUSTRATED by a simple two-letter word uttered to their child:

NO !

Parents need to be TRAINED and educated in the meaning of the

Parenting function.

Parenting, cannot be performed in abstencia

2) Real and positive abilities to READ

- that does imply understanding and the ability to apply critical examination and thinking of what you have read…

For, far too long,

parenting has been in charge to too many people who don't know the meaning of the word.

Parents should be held ACCOUNTABLE for their parenting skills.

Parents, like politicians, should not get a free pass for abysmal performance.

Once parenting standards are established and introduced, no amount of 'education' can remedy the effects of a

p.is.s

poorly, parented child,

by any amount of taxpayer INTERVENTION.

Not sure how we got to iPads in school to stealing fruit in the grocery store. I agree it is vital that students learn to communicate well, both in writing and orally. My point was just that if reading and writing cursive dies, so be it. I hardly ever use cursive myself anymore, except to sign something.
