For many years, school districts, because of political 'jock' mentality and pressures, have seen fit to ‘eliminate’ anything that passes as ‘liberal or fine arts’.

This practice to provide 'revenue' to perpetuate the jock mentality!

NEVER, has there been a THREAT by administrative types

to dump coaches, or jock programs, even though many students ‘try-out’,

fill the drill-day body counts,

but NEVER GET TO PLAY, except when the BOYS, strike-out or foul-out !

All high-school athletic programs should be intramural centered,

EVERYONE gets to play, not just a CHOSEN FEW !

I pay tax dollars to support public schools,

so why should my son or my daughter not get to play first string, or even play at all?

My tax dollars weigh-in equally with the jocks’ parents dollars,

yet these people get the majority of the clock time 'playing'.

One has to wonder, if the shoe were on the other foot, and, where in academics, only the brightest students got to participate in class, discussions or testing,

but lesser intellectually gifted students, because they weren’t as intelligently agile,

were left on the side-lines, and left as ‘fodder’ for the first-string 'players' to scrimmage against

in intellectual contests ?

Some cultures in this country many years ago,

considered and placed high regard, reverence and admiration upon those who had intellectual and fine-art skills,

even more than the esteem reserved for hunters, warriors, and gatherers.

One has to wonder . . .

Why,

Why not, first say goodbye to the jocks, and devote time and money educating the less intellectually elite and skillful….

The time has come,

when we are forced to face financial reality, a term that is foreign to young people with the “I want it now” mentality,

for the board and administration to forget about physical extra-curricular activities,

forget about parental and jock mentality politics.

Since money is scarce,

it's high time to focus on academics,

and it's also high time to relegate athletics to a low level . . .

let those who wish to participate in such things, do so after school hours and pay from their pockets to support these programs.

Many 'advanced' educational systems, (which the wonks are so good at quoting), already follow this line of thought.

Why Not Indeed focus on academics,

in these times when money to pay for 'non-essential games' is too scarce and academic programs placed in jeopardy.

Go to almost any school district or local government website and look for "budget and salary/compensation transparency reporting." You will find a wealth of information regarding budgets, salaries, etc. If you don't find the detail you want, pick up the phone and call.
