FIVE (5) SECONDS!

Five (5) lousy seconds . . .

to bring a vehicle traveling at 55 MPH to a complete SAFE STOP is REDICULOUS.

FIVE (5) SECONDS,

to bring a logging truck or a semi-truck to a COMPLETED SAFE stop while traveling at 55 MPH,

is IRRESPONSIBLE, for traffic ‘EXPERTS’ to expect all motorists to accomplish safely !

BRING THE STATE OF MICHIGAN INTO THIS INVESTIGATION as a defendant . . .

- should be a prosecutor’s priority!

The state of Michigan and M-DOT,

should bear some responsibility and subject to accountability for this accident !

Do the math.

FIVE (5) SECONDS for a vehicle moving at 30 -35 MPH results in considerably LESS distance traveled.

BUT,

given the same FIVE (5) SECONDS,

at highway speeds,

it takes considerably MORE distance to bring your vehicle to a safe stop.

NOW, add to the mix,

a close following car behind you,

and if you try to bring your vehicle to a stop within the ALLOTED

FIVE (5) SECONDS, there is a very STRONG possibility that the driver(s) behind you,

will or may REAR-END your vehicle.

When approached the MDOT in Escanaba, to question the yellow-light ‘timing’

AT THIS GLADSTONE intersection, and at highway speeds, it (M-DOT) promised that “it would be looked it”.

NOTHING WAS EVER DONE, and the timing remains the same to this day !

Yellow traffic light’s are common enough in city traffic,

where vehicle speeds are CONSIDERABLY under the 55 mph allowed on highways.

The time it takes to halt your car is CONSIDERABLY LESS,

at city traffic speeds usually 40 MPH or LESS.

But, when a vehicle is traveling at 55 MPH,

it takes CONSIDERABLY LONGER TIME, to bring a vehicle to a safe stop.

MOST motorists are surprised at the RELATIVELY short length of time that yellow-lights are being display at this intersection,

especially when travelling at highway speeds.

Timing of these yellow lights is pretty consistent in the state of Michigan, usually 5 SECONDS.

FIVE (5) SECONDS ?

Perhaps, a second ‘party’ should be named as a co-defendant in this case.

If I were the prosecutor,

or a member of the family whose lives were taken at this intersection,

I would involve the state of Michigan as a possible ‘co-conspirator’ in this case.

Years ago, I was upset with the timing of the ‘yellow’ light at this intersection. . .

Unfortunately for people whose reside or travel through Michigan, Republican legislatures and the Republican dominated Supreme Court have removed all liability for MDOT for any type of traffic signal defect. There is no recourse and they do not have to do anything.

If this were a building collapse,

you can bet your last dollar someone would be looking to persecute and prosecute, any and all who had a hand in such a malfunction.

How many drivers, have found themselves ‘RUNNING THROUGH’ this intersection because they couldn’t stop in the time it takes the light to go from yellow to red?

I’m with Whizzy.

Five seconds is precious little time to bring a car moving at 55 mph to a complete stop if you are a block or less from the light.

58,000 dead from the vietnam conflict for no good reason

- isn’t political according to your cellular misfiring Poochie?

Well, Poochie, it should be

Sure this was an “accident”?

But, is there more than one place to inflict with blame?

But, evidently the state wants to ‘investigate’ and make culpable, someone.

But, the state and poochie don’t want to look entirely at all the possibilities that may have been contributory to these deaths.

As citizens, we should speak our minds, and express our concerns, now that the state of Michigan is looking for a ‘scape-goat’,

we need to look everywhere, at the highway designers and engineers as well.

I’m sure this intersection and its traffic signaling could use improvement …

Not?

Poochie,

You’re lame.

Grow some brain cells to replace the dead or atrophied.

And, 59,000 lost lives in vietnam, for no good reason

isn’t political?

Historians have now concluded the money, time, and loss of lives, was on the part of our government, feeble or wrong-minded, unless you count the military-industrial complex and the spending of $16 BILLION dollars each your to grease their bank accounts “beneficial”.
