Let it be known that 11 of the 13 layoffs were done based on seniority, and some (if not most) were labeled "Highly Effective" on their evals. This is a very sad situation. The district is losing some excellent teachers. It's heart-breaking and stressful to those on the list. Be respectful.

Yeah, LeviB57, "WE" do need to try and gather enough funds.. because, (and here's the part that people like you don't understand).. The Public School System is "OUR" School System.. Good, bad, or otherwise.. it's "US".. our children attend there to begin their lives.. It seems all too often, people think that paying for a School is a STATE (ie.. taxpayer only) funded business.. They gripe about 'everything' associated with 'School'.. but loudest when asked to chip-in and help support the school.. "Why should I?, followed by their gripe".. I'm glad you received STATE purchased pencils and paper and supplies when you went to school. But the times are a changing (Dylan).. And we can no longer afford to GIVE away FREE stuff - by having the student bring supplies, the cost is narrowed down to those who use it.. Taxpayers without kids.. appreciate that..

when i was in school there were i'd say about 20-30% teachers that to this day i am still shocked got teaching jobs. several are unstable mentally and have snapped on kids. i hope they lay off the teachers that dont do such a good job. some in the english department give unbearable amounts of homework, more than i ever got at NMU. i hope the union doesnt protect anyone cause some of the old ones are no good as well. luckily there still are a lot of good ones there. maybe lemire should cut his salary in half and let someone keep there job.

"first, it doesn't matter where the Super resides..."

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't?

Perhaps the "SUPER" could settle for less...

if SHE,

didn't have to spend as much for gasoline, or living expenses, if shee lived closer ?

Of course, accepting a lower salary and living in-district are

utterly,

UN

REAL

@bjpc56 & Spartytruth - first, it doesn't matter where the Super resides, if the job isn't done correctly it'll be someone from Lansing stepping in. The salary for a Super would cover perhaps two teachers.. so laying off the Super gains very little. Running a School district without a Super is like a football team without a quarterback - i seriously doubt ANYONE reading this would attempt the job for less reward in spite of the rhetoric. In truth, the problem isn't in the Super's Office, rather in the support that person gets to do the job expected of them. and the griping and moaning and groaning here proves out that 'lack of support' from the public.. Let's concentrate on how to gather enough funds together to HIRE back the teachers in the Fall, and stop this bickering about how we got into this mess... there's plenty of blame t go around..

Why is it that we need a full time super & why do we have one that doesn't even live in Delta County???
