In 2011 more than 150 domestic police officers dies in the line of duty in the USA. That makes 2011 the most deadly year on record. Maybe that is why cops back each other up on traffic stops. Take a look around at the amount of drug related violence that is taking place around in the community and Hellen Keller could see that we need more cops serving to maintain the quality of life so often taken for granted.

"Lovesummer" doesn't think we need so many officers in Escanaba. I suspect that attitude would change quite quickly if his/her house was on fire, or in the process of being broken into.

Understaffed.............this is a joke, right????? There are MORE public safety officers now than there were when the population of Escanaba was way more than what it is now. Granted, times have changed in the past 20-30 years, but "understaffed" is a bit far reaching. They, in my opinion, are well overstaffed in personnel and equipment (especially patrol cars). Does it really take 3-4 cars and officers to converge on the scene of a young male driver being stopped????
