Im willing to bet you could have done a search on youtube and in minutes found out how to change it yourself. If not join a forum for your make/model of car.

Want to be even more mad? Depending on where you are in the country, these service garages at dealerships get anywhere from 90 to 120 dollars an hour for labor costs. The poor slob that replaced your headlight might make 15 bucks an hour and the dealership keeps the rest for overhead costs.

Anyone who would complain about people taking their cars and trucks to a non-dealer garage must not understand the logic behind doing so. Do I want to pay 35 bucks an hour for labor, or 95 bucks an hour for labor to get my headlight replaced?

I'd have take my righ elsewhere and got the job done for half or less. If these dealer garages want to be competitive and get people in the door, they need to stop charging 5 times for labor what they pay their labor.

Don’t forget, automobile dealers not too long ago,

and then all of them,

foreign and domestic,

were being squeezed profit-wise, selling new cars…

and about the same time, dealers were being squeezed out of the repair business,

by all of the various repair garages, and back-yard fix everything cheaper guys.

It was during this time,

that dealers and corporations

lobbied the states to mandate and pass laws making it mandatory for state-wide testing and licensure of automobile and truck mechanics.

The dealers and their corporations succeeded.

Every garage must have a state-licensed wrench monkey today.

And with this state-mandated law,

all of the back-yard, filling station, and shade-tree repair operations went out of business…

once and for all.

Dealers got their way…

and car and truck owners got the higher bills to prove it.

Let’s hear it for taking off the two front tires …

to change the spark plugs on your V-eight engine!

This type of thing is happening more and more with cars, and it's not just Chevy. Both foreign and domestic automakers are making their cars harder for shade-tree mechanics. Part of the reason is fewer people have the time or inclination to do anything with their own cars. Also, there's so much technology under the hood that a lot of fixes require a trained mechanic with diagnostic equipment. But I also blame the automakers who see this as a cash cow in the years to come. The money dealerships take in through repairs like this makes up for the deep discounts they often have to give in order to make a sale.
