Sad. I agree those lights are not safe. Please remember this and look both ways when approaching a light, especially after it just turned green.

The traffic signal lights at the North and South sides of Gladstone are particularly hazardous…

Highway speeds are 55 MPH.

Now then, from the time the traffic signal turns on the ORANGE Caution Light,

motorists have

EXACTLY

FIVE

(5)

SECONDS

In which to slow down and come to a complete stop.

This amount of time to slow down is nearly standard on all Michigan traffic signals on city streets,

where speeds are considerably lower.

It is incredible,

that motorists must come to a complete stop while travelling 55 MPH,

and many motorists routinely drive sixty to sixty MPH or more over this stretch of road.

When questioned about this signal timing years ago, MDOT in Escanaba,

had little to say about this hazardous situation,

and there was little indication that they were ‘concerned’ about the signal timing!

It's not the intersection that caused the accidents...it's the way people fly through the lights when they should be slowing down!!!

they really made that intersection safe. I have seen more accidents there since they changed it a few years back then ever before. Money well spent
