Sports Den: A new Marinette ace
ESCANABA — The Menominee Maroons have always been a primary rival for prep teams from Escanaba, and to a lesser degree from Gladstone. Because of geographics, those Delta County teams don’t have much of a connection with another nearby team, which happens to be Menominee’s prime rival. That does not mean Marinette should be left out in the cold when discussing prep standouts, one of whom graduated this month. Taylor Garceau, who played against Escanaba in basketball and baseball and against Gladstone in baseball, has put his name among the tops in Marinette history — Jug Girard, Erv Kunesh, Mike Dieters, Jim Magnuson, Rich Schoener, Jim Francour and Jeff Messenger come to mind. Garceau was a three-sport all-star in the Bay Conference, and was player of the year in basketball. He owns the school’s single-season scoring record of 498 points, he batted .394 and had a 0.

ESCANABA — Now that Brett Favre’s brilliant career with the Green Bay Packers has ended, the natural progression is finding out where he ranks among the all-time great quarterbacks.
