Bruntjens, Ferris in D-2 finals
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. — Ferris State University is going to the NCAA Division 2 softball finals, and Holly Bruntjens of Gladstone is a big reason.
Ferris won the Great Lakes Regional Saturday, beating Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 1-0 in the championship game after stopping Wayne State University 4-0 in the semifinals.
Bruntjens, a junior pitcher, allowed four hits in each game and was named the tournament’s outstanding player. She was joined on the all-tourney team by teammate Sarah Mueller.
Bruntjens (15-8) struck out six and walked three in the title game after striking out three in the semifinals. She was 3-0 in the tourney.
The Bulldogs (34-16) will face South Atlantic champion Francis Marion, S.C. at noon (CDT) Wednesday in Houston at the 27th NCAA Division 2 tournament.
Lewis University’s season ended Friday night with a 10-7 loss to Indianapolis.
