Caution: Men at work
ESCANABA — Traffic delays, road closures and detours can only mean road construction season is once again upon motorists traveling in the Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan Department of Transportation Superior Region office in Escanaba reports a few construction projects this summer, including the construction of a center left turn lane at the intersection of U.S. 2 and 41 and County Road 521 in Hyde. Work is expected to begin June 2, with a completion date of Sept. 1.
The project will include a shifting of traffic as work commences. At times throughout the project there will be traffic delays.
Another project being undertaken in Delta County, beginning July 28 an overlay of new asphalt along 16 miles of U.S. 2 south to Fayette State Park. The project, which costs $1.4 million, is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 28, said Mark Maloney, manager of the MDOT Transportation Service Center in Escanaba.
