Planning commission master plan

EDITOR:

I want to thank the Fairbanks supervisor for a recent letter to the editor. I agree with his statement that the creation of a Planning Commission to develop a master plan will not raise your taxes. In regards to the fear tactics of recent advertising stating the Planning Commission could cost tens of thousands of dollars, I agree with him that it is “probably too high” and that zoning is “not necessarily happening” and “likely costing the most”.

The ballot question on May 8 is only to establish an ordinance to form a planning commission that will create a master plan that is reviewed by the local township board. It is the Garden and Fairbanks township boards that will decide if the township creates an ordinance to do local zoning–not the voters.

I do not agree however that the Delta County Planning Commission is doing a fine job for residents of Fairbanks and Garden townships. Many of us attended the Delta County Planning Commission meetings for over three years driving for over an hour one way, sometimes several times a month, to discover that members of the planning commission have not even read the county master plan, have not done the five year review in over 20 years and did not listen to the health and safety concerns of the Fairbanks and Garden township residents. Instead they appeared to listen to what the industrial wind turbine company wanted and how many tax dollars the county would receive which seemed to take priority over the concerns of Fairbanks and Garden township residents. Does Delta County care about the residents of our townships? I think not.
