Too cold for fireworks

EDITOR:

A big shout out to the coordinator of the fireworks display on New Year’s Eve. We were driving to our taxi office and turned on 1st Avenue North just as the finale happened. It was awesome!

I do have to question why Escanaba does this in this climate. I think it was 2 above zero at the time. Was anyone outside watching? I saw a lot of cars parked, watching. I have some suggestions. There are several times a year when the city puts on events at the park — times where it isn’t life-threatening cold to bring kids outside to see the fireworks. I love fireworks. I love Escanaba. But when it gets this cold, we are just trying to get through it. I know New York does it. It was 10 above there. A million people and there were some heat sources in Times Square. At Escanaba’s Municipal Dock at 9 p.m., there was no heat source, and wind chills were -10 or colder. It was a really great, short display. I would love to see that on Memorial Day, or Labor Day, you get the idea. We could come up with some ideas. I always have ideas.
