Wealth redistribution does not work
EDITOR:
The Nov. 9 letter titled “Doing our part for our service men and women” could not have been farther from the truth and reality.
What America do some of you live in? Since when do you deliver ultimatums to the President? I agree the tax code is deplorable and need re-writing, but that should be down to a flat tax of 5-7 percent, no more and possibly less. The government does not need our personal income taxes to operate since they receive monies from many, many other tax sources. The fact is they are spending it at a rate that far exceeds what they bring in.
How can you correct anything by taking money from the wealthy and giving it to the poor? Wealth redistribution does not work because giving a poor man, a rich man’s money, which will make the rich man poor. The logic of it is way off. In addition, if you or anyone else tells me to pay my fair share because I did not have a tax liability that year, then I would tell you to take a hike and run your own corporation. I take the risk by investing my time and money. You have no say in how I run my business, unless you are a customer or a shareholder.
Here is how a corporation works. Corporations do not pay taxes. A corporation provides a service or a product and receives income for doing so. A corporation does write a check to the IRS, if required to do so. That part is very important to understand. If the corporation has losses, deductions, and/or depreciations, then their tax liability may be zero. If the taxes, costs of materials, cost of labor and inflation increases, then the corporation will raise the price of their product or service. In a nutshell, a corporation will write a check to the IRS, but that amount is directly passed on to the consumer. That means you and me! We all pay too much as it is.
What infrastructure is depending on those funds are you referring to? Is it the infrastructure of government handouts for half the country? Is it the infrastructure of less than half of us paying for the other half? Is it the infrastructure of paying for a bloated government bureaucracy? Is it for the infrastructure of a government mandated health care system?
You would have all of us paying more for everything we use or need, just because you think corporations are not paying their fair share. Corporations generate far more tax income for this country than personal income taxes do. This is another example of liberalism gone wrong. They will always tell you what you to do. When was the last time you saw a group of conservatives, block a freeway, turn over cop cars, burn buildings, riot and loot?
The U.S. Constitution provides for a capitalism-based nation, not wealth redistribution.
