Athletes gave special tribute to local veterans

This week’s bouquets go to:

From Mike Olson of Ford River/Escanaba:

Congratulations to the Escanaba Eskymos football team for their first home game, brilliant football win Friday, Aug. 25 against Alpena. The whole atmosphere at the game was electric with excitement. The home team performed very well in their run and pass games. They were obviously well-coached, and the high school band and cheerleaders added their own excitement. An enthusiastic, large crowed was on hand for all the night’s activities. The night was made exceptionally great when the Fan Club inducted seven former players and coaches into the Wall of Fame. Additionally, the whole night was made even more special when the Mos provided a pregame meal for all local U.S. military veterans. These military heroes, about 70 in attendance, were given a special standing ovation applause when they formed a long semi-circle on the field and both teams, coaches and officials shook each veteran’s hands. It was impressive all the way around. I believe that the Alpena fans and players witnessed and participated in a superb patriotic, hometown moment. (My thought is that Alpena will adopt a similar event there.) Congratulations to all participants and the many hands that helped create such a great night.

From Troy Snowaert:

Thank you to all the parents and fifth and sixth grade kids that I helped coach in the last 16 years at the Upper Elementary and Civic Center in Escanaba.
